We make bags and shoes the slow way
Shuidu began with a simple frustration: handbags and shoes that looked beautiful in a photograph and fell apart within a season. We decided to make fewer things, make them properly, and sell them directly.
What we make
Twenty-four pieces in total: twelve bags and twelve pairs of shoes. A structured tote, a chain-strap shoulder bag, a knee-high boot, a ballet flat. Nothing seasonal, nothing disposable.
How we make it
We work with two small workshops, both of which we have used for six years. Runs are kept short so we can inspect every piece before it is packed, and so we never over-produce.
Leather that earns its patina
Full-grain and vegetable-tanned hides darken and soften with use. That is the point: a Shuidu bag should look better in year three than it did in week one.
What we promise
Honest materials
Full-grain Italian leather, Italian suede, solid brass hardware. If a piece is lined, it is lined in leather or suede — not in a fabric we would not wear ourselves.
Priced without a middleman
We sell direct. There is no wholesale margin folded into our prices, which is how a hand-finished tote lands at $395 rather than $900.
Made to be repaired
Stitching can be redone, hardware can be replaced, straps can be remade. Email us before you throw anything away and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
